  • Summary: The proposed bill directs the President to "develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce mortality and improve the health of newborns, children, and mothers in developing countries" and authorizes the President to provide the level of assistance necessary to implement this strategy. The bill also creates an Interagency Task Force on Child Survival in Developing Countries that would "assess, monitor, and evaluate" U.S. progress in helping to reduce child mortality and achieve Millennium Development Goal 4.
